Dr. Varma graduated as a veterinarian in 1980 from the University of Nairobi (Kenya). At tht time his special interest was in African wildlife. He spent the next 3 years working as a wildlife research veterinarian in Kenya. This was "real" wildlife like hyenas, lions, water-buck, eland, and buffalo. In 1984 he received a scholarship to do a Masters Degree in Veterinary Science at the University of Edinburgh (Scotland). Dr. Varma then immigrated to Canada in 1987 and worked for a few months at the Ontario Veterinary College while preparing for his licensing exams. He worked at various clinics in Toronto and Brampton before finally setting up Heart Lake Veterinary Hospital in 1995. Dr. Varma has served as president of both The Brampton Veterinary Association and The Highway 10 & Wexford Emergency Clinic which serves Georgetown, Milton, Orangeville, Bolton, Caledon, and Brampton. He shares his home with his wife, and sometimes with his 2 university aged children. |

Jennifer has been with Heart Lake Veterinary Hospital since 1996 starting as a high school co-op student. Since that time she studied Biotechnology at Seneca College and Biology at The University of Guelph while helping out part-time as a veterinary assistant. Recognizing that working with animals in the clinical environment was where she really thrived, she went back to school and graduated from The University of Guelph, Ridgetown Campus Veterinary Technician program in 2008. Jennifer truly enjoys the nursing aspect of veterinary medicine and helping animals recover from illnesses. When clients come to the clinic she can appreciate their concern for their pet's well being and, and in turn talk to them about preventative health care. Having recently lost her cat of 15 years, Jennifer is able to spend more time with her dog, Maya, who is not complaining about the extra attention. |
